A lot has happened since the groundbreaking debut-release of Daily Disco on Great Stuff Records in Spring 2005. Yet one of the most successful Great Stuff Releases ever, praised by the top djs around the globe. Since then a lot has changed for that “Luetze”-Guy.
He did a hell-a-lot of productions in 2005 (i.e. LXR, LK-Pro, Elektroluxx, Bully Boys, Mike Litt, L.Y.T.Z., Electronauts and so forth) with most of them being played by nearly all the big names in the electronic music game.
Keep your eyes and ears open. More than once people noticed that often there is that Luetzenkirchen name in the credtis, even if the name is not on the frontcover of the record (example: Wollion - Monster (BluFin). Same for the remixes.
There are also a really huge amount of remixes done by him as well, with a lot of variation between them and like many people noticed: “as usual, always on a very high production level, adding to the “brand” of quality that people now start to expect from Luetzenkirchen productions”. And he delivers.
Then the fall came, followed by the 2005s second most downloaded track of the year on beatport: “Zombie”, where Luetzenkirchen teamed up with John Acquavia, closing the year with the second Luetzenkirchen Single Counter Funk, including one of the best Oliver Koletzki Remixes ever and the highly acclaimed bside track “lazy dog bites the dirt”.
Luetzenkirchen, seeming to be never asleep, keeps pushing on, ready to unleash a spectacular remix of Coburns “Give me Love” in the beginning of 2006, again a Beatport Number 1 for several weeks and an international slammer. In the meantime he moved to Bavaria/Munich, and throws together his studio equipment with electro veteran Tomcraft, engineering all tomcraft tracks & remixes from this time on.
With Tomcraft on top of all that other things he has to do, they are starting off with a tomcraft remix highlight on Bloodhound Gangs “Uhn Tiss” Single. BHGs Jimmy Pop was so excited that there was born a feature with Tomcraft (Broadsword calling Danny Boy”Ê / very soon) . “Luetze” produces. And will deliver. High quality, as always.
Then came the second Acquaviva & Lützenkirchen Production. (”No Fear” / Blu Fin) which turned out to be a peaktime-smasher also.
Beside of this, Luetzenkirchen founded his own dropout label “tabula raza” with Systematic Label Manager Marc Romboy, with the third release waiting just right now in pipeline, that will feature one track with Chelnois R. Jones.
The next Lützenkirchen is also ready to be released. “Knight Moves” is coming with big Mixes, including Meat Katie and Jochen Trappe.ÊSame for the new Tomcraft SingleÊ “Katowice / Cold as Chrome” , LXR “Freak Me” (including Andrea Doria Remix) and Crime Club “The Beast” (including Mason Remix).
The Remixes are running like hell too. And the Names are getting bigger. John Digweed (”Warung Beach”), Meat Katie (”Pace”) and even Yello (Oh Yeah Oh Six) had all requestet that Lütze-Sound for their Single-Remixes.
Oh, and yes, Luetzenkirchen still has time to play dj-gigs as well. And like its nothing new, a lot of them. Round the globe.
But his intentions ain’t being a superstar-dj, just having some more fun on the road.
There will be also another Lützenkirchen-Single this year after “knight Moves” (late september) and the debut-album (!!) of Lützenkirchen is coming too. (planned to be released in November)
His plans for the future: From being *a* producer to become one of *the* producers. If its possible, not only in the electronic music. One of his biggest dreams is to write a full movie score with a classical, orchestral background.
We are sure, whatever the goal is, he will deliver.
By the way: Lützenkirchen is his real name.

CML: Hi Tobias Lutzenkirchen. It’s an honor to see you on CML.
T.L: Thanks mate, it´s always nice to do stuff like this. Really, I mean it.. ;)

CML: Where are you from? And where do you live?
T.L: My father is from Cuba, anyways, I am original German, born and raised in Germany with the german side of my family.

CML: How and when did you start djing?
T.L: The first steps were made on Ibiza 1995, where I worked approx. 10 months as a Partypromoter for several Clubs and then later on I get the chance to spin some music on the outdoor-floor in a small club in Playa D´en Bossa. But I didn´t go further than that for a couple of years. For quite some years I did nothing DJ-wise. The real Touring started with the Debut release of Daily Disco on Great Stuff. since late 2005 I´m playing a lot.

CML: Who was your favorite dj when you started djing? And who is your favorite dj now, other than you?
T.L: Hmm. Difficult Question. Earlier the days I had good partys listening to Sven Väth, Marc Spoon or Westbam. But this is over a decade ago..;) Now my favourite DJ is definitely DJ Hell. (followed by Tiga)

CML: Where does your inspiration come from?
T.L: Oh, this is difficult. I get my inspiration from a lot of different music styles. Electronic-wise it’ s a mix of the english club-elite that inspires me, and lately I am getting a lot of inspiration by listening to the dj-sets of satoshi tomiie or Jody Wisternoff. Could be that I might throw out some more melodic productions sooner or later… (more like the Coburn Remix I did. I love to throw in more and more harmonies lately). But don´t be afraid, the bass-heavy floorslammers will always stay in line with the other productions. I am too addicted to bass..;)

CML: Are there any specific clubs you like playing?
T.L: Oh yes. Anzu Club in Brasil is veeery nice. And I´d love to play at Warung Beach in Brasil. And I am very excited about asia, cause this year I will play first time in asia. (Hong Kong & Singapore)

CML: What cities are the most exciting to perform in?
T.L: This is also Brasil. Sao Paolo, Campinas. And also the eastern Europe Countries, especially Poland and Russia. Because the people there are partying very hard and got also a more technoid influenced background, same as me.

CML: Name a few major influences that lead you to the style of music you producing?
T.L: Major influence and Idol: Deniz Pop (Dagge Volle) from Swemix /Cheiron. Then Daft Punk. Especially Thomas Bangalter. And earlier, I forgot his name, but he was actually a very succesful Italian producer. He produced (with other guys) Capella and later on also the first singles for (or with) Mauro Picotto. Ah yes, I remember now. Gianfranco Bortolotti..;)

CML: What is the craziest thing that you have experience in a club?
T.L: I saw once a guy (I forgot his name also). He was playing and totally drunk. He was partying so damn hard that he lost control and fell with the desk including turntables and mixer down from the stage. No one gets hurt, though, but I laughed my ass off…Oh my god!

CML: How do you see the scene developing over the next few years in Europe and America?
T.L: I guess we´re all on a good way now. Actually I think the scene is (again) growing bigger and bigger and that´s a really good thing. I also think that there will be some more “musical fusions” in the electro scene. Like Techhouse gaining more influences from classical House Tracks (Like Mason Exceeder for example) or more melodic and kind of “trancy” stuff adding to the Tech-House Scene as well.

CML: What do you enjoy the most about being a dj?
T.L: Oh, it´s just the travelling, meeting other people, visiting other countries. My intention was never being a high- profile DJ. I´m just more in the production stuff and love hanging around in the studio for endless hours. But nevertheless I love playing, but I try to keep the touring-schedule as low as I can…;)

CML: Where are you playing in the upcoming months?
T.L: Next thing will be Privilege / Ibiza together with John Acquaviva on 1st of August. After that there will be some gigs in Germany, also Switzerland (Basel) and some TBCs like Kiev, Novosibirsk and France. In Oktobre, I will play first time in Asia.

CML: What should we be looking out for from you in 2006?
T.L: Well the most interesting thing might be the Debut Album of Lützenkirchen. I am putting really hard work in it and I try to do a somewhat different approach to this. It will be a definite Club Album, but with special Album Edits of all Tracks and some nice features. It will definitiely be released also this year. I guess at the beginning of November. Also the next Tomcraft Single after “Katowice / Cold as Chrome” could get very interesting, because it features Vocals from Jimmy Pop of the Bloodhound Gang.

CML: What other productions do you have in store for the future?
T.L: The next Lützenkirchen is already finished. After “Knight Moves” there will be “The Killer / Ultrashift”. Double A-Side. In my own opinion one of the strongest singles from me ´til this day. There will come also the third “Tabula Raza” your way, featuring also a track with Vocals from Chelnois R. Jones (Track is called Lava) and some other stuff as well. ;)

CML: Do you have any advice for aspiring producer?
T.L: Definitely. Think analog. Even if you´re working/mixing on the digital domain. Learn the analog basics and stay with your analog mind. And don´t take it for real, that you can do everything inside a laptop. You can´t..(yet)

CML: Is there anything you would like to say to fans out there?
T.L: Yes. Nice that there are some, and 1000 times “thank you” for their support. It keeps me working hard and also gives me the feeling, that my music gives them some nice moments in their lives. Thats a great thing to know. By the way, I´ve always loved feedback. Cause this is what music is all about. Of course you start making music just for you, cause you love it. But on the long run, music is entertainement. And therefore you get the nicest moments, when you see the people getting crazy on the dancefloor listening to your own records. Or on the other hand, when people from all corners of the world just tell you to keep up the good work. Thats always a very big motivation. And I can´t express it enough, how important that is.

CML: Thanks a lot for your support. Do you want to greet someone?
T.L: Thank you for letting me do this interview. Keep up the good work, hang tough and good luck for your future. Ah and yes, hi misia..;)
